Meet Mortaza - AR Prototype & Pitch Demo

Production: Les Produits Frais & Dancing Dog Productions  |  VR Director: Joséphine Derobe  |  Role: AR Prototyping & Mobile Development (Unity C#)

Design and development of an augmented reality proof of concept (POC) for the Meet Mortaza documentary exhibition. Created to extend the 360° VR film experience into a physical exhibition space, this application served as the core technical pitch demo for funding proposals.

Context & Visitor Journey

  • A Journey of Exile: At age 24, Mortaza fled Afghanistan to escape death threats from religious authorities, traveling across Europe to seek asylum in France.
  • Post-VR Journey: Designing the second stage of the exhibition space. Following the VR film, visitors explore physical exhibits enriched with interactive 3D content.
  • Prototyping Objective: Deliver a polished, functional demo to demonstrate the interactive potential for production funding pitches.

AR Design & Mobile Development

  • Unity C# & AR Foundation: Implemented image tracking for precise 3D placement over physical posters and exhibition assets.
  • Transmedia UX: Designed interactions to ensure a smooth, intuitive transition from the immersive VR headset experience to the physical room.
  • Mobile Optimization: Fine-tuned performance for smooth and responsive execution on mobile devices (iOS / Android).

Workflow Breakdown & Technical Demo

Functional AR prototype demo video created for the pitch application deck.

1. Image Tracking & Spatial Anchoring (AR Foundation)

Challenge: Provide reliable and instant 3D tracking on physical markers to build a convincing pitch prototype.
Solution: Leveraged AR Foundation in Unity C# for marker detection and spatial anchor stability.

2. Augmented Exhibition Scenography

Challenge: Design an AR experience that complements the VR film without overwhelming the visitor.
Solution: Created clean 3D animations and subtle interactions that naturally augment the physical artifacts.
